Piraeus - Salvage Practices in Egypt & Oil Pollution in Egyptian Waters

Kalimbassieris Maritime, in co-operation with Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association, organized a presentation with subject “Salvage Practices in Egypt & Oil Pollution in Egyptian Waters”, which was held in the Association’s premises on Thursday, the 16th May 2019. The presentation was opened by Mrs. Elpi Petraki, B’ Vice President of Hellenic Shortsea Shipowners Association, who welcomed the participants and provided brief information on Kalimbassieris Maritime and its activities.

The event was attended by a large number of distinguished members of the Piraeus shipping community and included three presentations given by Kalimbassieris team comprising of:

  • Eng. Ahmed El-Akkad, Chairman of Mahoney Shipping & Marine Services
  • Adm. (ret) Alaa Nasr, Former Head of the Egyptian Navy’s Salvage
  • Capt. Mahmoud Ismail, Former General Director in the EEAA

The topics covered – amongst other – a general presentation of Egyptian economy, the practices of Egyptian Navy and Suez Canal Authority during salvage operations within their jurisdiction, salvage awards and related negotiation practices, oil spill preparedness and response in Egyptian waters, financial exposure and the methodology for quantifying the losses/damages to environment after oil pollution incidents.
