WoE Loss Prevention Seminar on Bunker Problems - November 2012

Our Technical Director Dimitrios V. Giannakouros gave a presentation on Bunker Problems.

Kalimbassieris Maritime actively participated in a Loss Prevention seminar organized by the West of England (Hellas) with subject "Bunker Problems - Minimizing the Risks", which was held at Piraeus Marine Club on 8th November 2012 and attended by a large number of delegates from shipping companies and brokers of the local marine community.

The seminar was opened by Ian Clarke, CEO of West of England (Hellas), after whom Captain Simon Rapley from the Club’s Loss Prevention team based in London, gave his presentation covering bunkering procedures, best practice, bunker management and common problems.

Our Technical Director Dimitrios V. Giannakouros presented a topic on “Technical Aspects of Identifying and Managing Bunker Problems". His 50-minute speech covered the latest ISO Standard 8217 on marine fuel quality, sampling process for obtaining representative samples, shore based testing of samples, evaluation of test results and identification of off-spec bunkers, as well as engine damages caused as a result of consumption of unsuitable bunkers, with particular emphasis given on measures and precautions to be taken for avoiding such damages.

The session ended by Tim Davies from the Club’s Greek office with his review of the legal and practical problems faced under charterparties and bunker supply contracts.
