Alaa joined Kalimbassieris Egypt in 2017 as a senior consultant.

Prior to joining Kalimbassieris Alaa served with the Egyptian Navy for 32 years in various positions, lastly as Head of the Salvage and Diving Unit in charge of salvage within Egyptian territorial waters. After retiring from the Navy, he worked as a project manager for an oil and gas company operating in Egypt and the Middle East, and as Chairman of a Ro-Ro operator.

Alaa also served as military attaché in the Egyptian Embassy in Greece between 2003 and 2005.
