Senior Marine Surveyor

Efstathios Skalimis joined the company in 2026 as Senior Marine Surveyor. He is a retired Commodore of the Hellenic Coast Guard with more than three decades of leadership and operational experience in maritime operations.

He graduated from the Merchant Marine Academy in 1995 and began his maritime career as a Second Officer aboard bulk carriers before serving as a Navigation Officer in the Hellenic Navy. In 1999, he graduated from the Hellenic Coast Guard Officers Academy and was commissioned as a Coast Guard Officer.

During his career, he held several senior operational and leadership appointments, including Commander of a Regional Coast Guard Administration, Harbour Master, Captain of Coast Guard Patrol Vessels, and Flag State Surveyor. He also served as a Coast Guard Helicopter Pilot and Flight Instructor, conducting complex maritime surveillance, search and rescue, and operational missions.

Throughout his service, he directed and coordinated responses to numerous maritime emergencies, including vessel groundings, collisions, pollution incidents and complex search and rescue (SAR) operations. His experience combines strategic leadership with extensive operational expertise.

He served as a Seconded National Expert at Frontex, acting as the Agency’s operational coordinator for maritime and aerial operations across the Mediterranean.

His comprehensive understanding of maritime legislation, regulatory frameworks and administrative procedures, combined with extensive command and operational experience, enables him to provide expert insight and strategic guidance in marine casualties, incident investigations, maritime risk management, and complex operational matters.

He is fluent in Greek and English and conversant in Spanish.
